Let's face it, new year's resolutions have the sticking power of tape on fabric. It's not that the intentions aren't heartfelt. It's not that the desire is lacking. It's not a lack of will power or focus. It's because the end goal is often too far away. When we set a new year's resolution to loose weight, for example, we often don't pin down a workable time frame. Amorphous time frames are change de-railers. For instance, you might say this year I am going to increase sales by 20% or loose 20 lbs or exercise more or finish a particular house or work project. All great goals, but how are you really going to make that happen?
So, here is the cool new way to meet your goals:
Yup, that's right, New Month Resolutions©. Every month you set a new resolution, a new commitment to change/improvement/goals. It can be a new commitment or a re-commitment to the previous month's goal. It becomes a restart, a reset or a reminder to yourself about what you really want. It's an antidote to letting life's distractions pull you away from yourself. Put a reminder in your cell phone, on google calender, on sticky notes, on any reminder system that works for you, so that you can set your New Month Resolution© on the first of every month.
It's not necessary to wait until January 1, 2011 to resolve to stay the steady course. So, when that voice in your head says, "See, it's the middle of January and you already blew your new year's resolution. So why bother?", tell it to take a hike, leave town, go away and reset your New Month Resolution©. It's never too late for a restart!
